December 5th Newsletter

Hello Families! Welcome to our classroom blog! I will post a newsletter every other week. I'll notify you via email and through your child's assignment notebook.

Scholastic Book Orders- They were due today, but you can still order online through this weekend. If you would like to purchase the books for the holidays and do not wish your little one to see the books, let me know via email and I will set them aside at school so you can pick them up at your leisure. Remember, all scholastic book orders help supply our classroom with books. To order CLICK HERE User name: Dahms Password: AllStars

Reading- We are continuing our study of Nonfiction books. Ask your child what some nonfiction features are. Some families will have noticed a book bag come home with a book and log. Every time we finish a book in reading group, I will send it home. It should be read that night and returned the next day. The book should be easy for your child to read, as we will have read it in school 2-3 times.

Writing- We began writers workshop this week. We are focusing on writing about small moments from our life- adding lots of details, having a beg-middle-end. We do seem to have trouble coming up with writing topics. As a result, I am asking that you help your child create a collage of pictures, words, drawing, magazine clippings, stickers of their interests and/or favorite moments so they will have some inspiration at school (see letter and example in Home folder)

Word Study- We had our test on words ending in -y and find, use, may, water and long
Next week's pattern will be /oo/ words. I will post the 5 high frequency words and give you some examples of the pattern on this blog every week.

Math-We had our Unit 4- Addition and Subtraction assessment Thursday. Look for the tests to come home early next week. On Monday, we will begin Unit 5- 3D and 2D shapes

Social Studies- We are continuing our unit on Mapping. We played a fun game that helps us identify the 7 continents. Have your child show you: Click Geospy

Reminders: Field Trip next Tuesday ----Holiday Program Wednesday December 17th

News: Erin was our Star of the Week. Her mom was our first surprise reader. She read the book Click Clack Moo Cows that Type. Victoria will be our Star next week.

HELP: I am in desperate need of stickers. If any family is willing to donate any fun stickers, I'd greatly appreciate it. I prefer to use stickers as a reward rather than candy. Thank you!

Have a wonderful weekend- Stay warm!
